Middleton & Middleton seeks a Legal Assistant for its office in College Station, Texas.
Job Description
The Legal Assistant serves a crucial role in supporting our attorneys and ensuring the smooth operation of our law firm. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational skills, capacity to learn and apply legal procedures, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for assisting attorneys with various client matters, managing files, and providing administrative support to facilitate efficient client service and case management.
Responsibilities
Case Management: Assist attorneys in managing client files, including organizing documents, correspondence, and other case-related materials.
Document Drafting: Prepare legal documents, including estate planning documents and probate pleadings, under the supervision of attorneys.
Client Communication: Communicate with clients to gather information, provide updates on case status, and relay messages between clients and attorneys as needed.
Court Filings: Prepare and file legal documents with courts and government agencies, ensuring compliance with filing deadlines and procedural requirements.
Calendar Management: Manage attorney calendars, including scheduling appointments, court dates, and deadlines, and sending reminders to ensure timely attendance and completion of tasks.
Billing and Timekeeping: Assist attorneys with timekeeping and billing activities, including tracking billable hours, preparing invoices, and processing client payments.
Administrative Support: Provide administrative assistance to attorneys, including answering phones, drafting correspondence, photocopying, and scanning documents, and other general office tasks.
Requirements
High school degree or equivalent as a minimum; undergraduate degree or certificate program preferred.
Prior experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or in a related legal support role preferred, but not required.
Able to work independently and multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, PDF Editor Software, and experience with QuickBooks or other accounting software preferred.
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work product.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Team player with a proactive and resourceful attitude.
